Ran'-bo (qesheth, translated "a bow"; iris, "rainbow")

There is a rainbow some where in this world, so long there is rain somewhere.

It's nice to know that the rainbow is a sign of God's covenant for us that he will not flood all the earth again.

Acne (In case the website was edited)

Introduction
Yauvan Pidika or acne vulgaris is one of the most popular health problems faced by adolescent teenagers. Most teenagers are quite conscious about their looks. Since acne appears on the face itself, it becomes a big concern. Teenagers all over the world spend huge amounts of money in order to solve the problem of their acne. But what they only manage to do is to reduce the surface problem, while the acne persists under the skin. Therefore, the acne problem recurs throughout the youth of the person. Here Ayurveda has an important role. Ayurveda treats acne at the root of the problem and not at the surface.
Definition of Acne (Yauvan Pidika)
Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory disorder of the skin. The problem originates from the root of the hair follicles where they are associated with sebaceous glands. Such structures are called as pilosebaceous glands. When the blood circulating in these glands is impure, then it causes eruptions on the surface of the skin. These eruptions are commonly called as pimples or zits.
It has been proved that yauvan pidika is caused due to an excessive production of the male hormone, testosterone. Since this hormone is present in both males and well as females, acne is a universal problem. There is no particular trend to predict whether acne shows itself more in boys or in girls. Generally, every person entering into puberty will have a case of acne in some form or the other. This issue mostly resolves itself as age advances, but again some people continue having acne right into their middle age.
Causes of Acne (Yauvan Pidika)
Yauvan pidika is an internal constitutional disorder of the body. It is not an infectious or a contagious disease. Therefore, this problem is not caused due to microorganisms. The cause lies with the general constitution of the person.
According to Ayurveda, the main cause of yauvan pidika is an increased vata andkapha dosha in the person. An increase in the rakta and medha dhatu also can cause yauvan pidika. Ayurveda believes that yauvan pidika is a disease that is caused due to improper diet and other internal factors. A list of the factors that can cause yauvan pidika is given below:-
(i) An improper diet is the chief cause of yauvan pidika. A person who has anah(simple constipation) and ajirna (indigestion) regularly has more chances of yauvan pidika. Similarly people who like spicy (teekha) food, sugary or oily food can haveyauvan pidika.
(ii) Faulty eating methods can cause yauvan pidika. Some of the notable faulty eating methods are:-
a) Adhyashana – Consuming food at short intervals, due to which new food enters the body when the previous food is not digested.
b) Virudhashana – Consuming incompatible foods together such as fish and milk, curds and milk, etc.
c) Vishamashana – Consuming food with disregard to the bodily cravings, such as eating when not hungry or fasting when hungry.
(iii) Having more sexual desires in adolescence can lead to yauvan pidika. This is because increased sexual desires lead to overproduction of testosterone.
(iv) Deficiency of vitamin A (retinol) can cause yauvan pidika.
(v) Women who have menstrual problems, such as irregular or delayed periods, can have yauvan pidika. Generally all women do have mild acne problems during their menstrual cycles, which becomes more if the periods are delayed.
Symptoms of Acne (Yauvan Pidika)
The symptoms of acne are common in all people. The following points show how the outbreak begins:-
(i) In the beginning stages, there are small pimples or zits that appear on the face. These pimples are observed more in the pores on the face, because they are the external openings of the sebaceous glands. Apart from that, the pimples can also appear on the shoulders, arms, back and chest.
(ii) On the face, the pimples are more observed on the cheeks, forehead, nose and the chin. Pimples can be painless, or they can be itchy with pain.
(iii) The pimples may appear as small pinheads, which grow with time. Pus may develop in them and the pimples become hard. If pus develops, then the pimples get a yellow color on the surface.
(iv) In a couple of days, the pimples erupt and dry off. This leaves behind a pockmark, which causes disfiguration of the face.
(v) During an outburst of acne, the face becomes oily. The person may be depressed due to the eruptions on the face. There is also increased sweating on the face, making the whole face look more undesirable.
Diet for Acne (Yauvan Pidika)
The following diet is beneficial for people who have problems with acne:-
(i) Eat food that is suitably warm. Avoid cold foods.
(ii) Do not eat foods that are not compatible with each other.
(iii) Keep a suitable time gap between meals. A complete meal can take anywhere between three to four hours for digestion. It is not good to eat anything else within this timeframe.
(iv) Oily foods must be avoided. More abstinence from oily foods is needed in the summer season, or if you are living in a hot climate.
(v) Do not gorge on spicy and sugary food. Keep your diet a perfect balance of foods with different tastes.
(vi) Consume proper amounts of green leafy vegetables. This will provide the cellulose for roughage, which takes care of proper movement of bowels.
(vii) Include a fair amount of fresh fruits in your diet. This will build up proper water content in your body, which will make the blood purer.
Precautions to be Taken with Acne (Yauvan Pidika)
Yauvan pidika can be treated very simply by just taking a few dietary and mental precautions. If a person has a case of yauvan pidika, then the following precautions must be taken:-
(i) Observe the dietary regulations given above.
(ii) A daily bath is essential. Special attention should be paid to the face. Wash the face with water and mild soap at least twice a day, and once after returning home from outside. After each washing, rub the body with a towel to remove the dead cells from the surface of the body.
(iii) Expose the skin to fresh air and sunlight often. This will help in opening the pores on the skin and lead to better circulation.
(iv) Indulge in constructive activities like exercise and studies in the youth. This will prevent thoughts of sex entering into the mind.
Best Treatment for Acne (Yauvan Pidika)
Best Acne Treatment
Ayurveda has several treatment methods for yauvan pidika with the promise of long-lasting results. Ayurveda attacks the root cause of the disease. This is achieved by the intake of a proper nutritive and balanced diet. There are many more home remedies that Ayurveda prescribes for yauvan pidika. Given below are some of them.
(i) Applying jamun (Syzgium cumini) seeds rubbed with water on the pimples will reduce the growth of the pimples.
(ii) Squash a properly ripened and soft papaya in water. Massage the whole face with this paste. The paste will begin drying up after about fifteen to twenty minutes. At this juncture, wash the face with clean water and wipe it with a rough towel. Then apply either sesame or coconut oil on the face. Continuation of this procedure for a week will help a lot in removing the pimples and their residual marks from the face. Apart from that, the face will look moister and get a youthful sheen.
(iii) Rubbing the face with the peel of an orange also shows good results.
(iv) One more method of combating pimples is to wash the face with buttermilk at least twice a day.
(v) Make a paste of 10 grams of besan (flour of chickpea) and 10 grams of haldi(turmeric) in dahi (curds). Apply this paste on the face using massaging techniques. Let the paste dry on the face, and then wash it with plain water. This method provides relief within seven days of continuous application.
(vi) A paste of lodhra (Symplocos crataegoides), dhania (coriander) and vach (Acorus calamus) also promises results within seven days. This is one of the best acne treatments.
(vii) Extract the milk of the sharp thorns of the semal tree (cotton tree, Bombax ceiba). Apply this milk on the pimples directly and wash after it is dried off. Continue this process for just three days to get results.
(viii) Take powders of roasted mustard seeds, orange peels and chiraunji(Buchanania latifolia) in equal proportions. Grind them into a very fine constitution. This mixture is applied to the face.
(ix) Make a paste of jayphal (nutmeg) and red chandan (red sandalwood). Apply this on the face to reduce pimples.
(x) Prepare a mixture of neembu (lemon), black kasondi (coffee pods or java beans) and extract of the tulsi (basil) and dry it in the sun. It will become more viscous when it is dried. Apply it on the face in this concentrated form. This is a sure method of reducing pimples. This acne remedy is helpful in acne cure.
(xi) A very simple remedy is to put the roots of the neem (Azadirachtha indica) in water and apply this concoction on the pimples. This method also gives fast relief from pimples.
(xii) Make a paste of masoor dal (red lentils) with milk, camphor and ghee. Apply this mixture on the face. This will not only reduce the pimples, but also take care of the pockmarks that can remain when the pimples are dried off. This is the best acne treatment
(xiii) Make a paste of lemon juice, milk and kalaunji (seeds of fennel flower) in very fine powder form. Apply this paste on the face at night when retiring to bed. In the morning, wash the face with lukewarm water. This method is a quick way to eradicate pimples and can be used if you have to go to a party or a function.
(xiv) Another method that can be employed if you have to socialize is to apply a paste of fine powder of dried orange peel in rose water. This will not only remove the pimples quickly but also improve the texture of the skin.
(xv) Mix a cup of milk with a cup of lemon juice. This mixture requires a time of ageing. Hence prepare it in the early morning and apply it when going to bed at night. Wash the face the next morning and wipe it with a rough towel. Continue this application for a couple of days until you see signs of relief. This acne remedy is helpful in acne cure.
(xvi) Add a spoonful of salt in a bowl of hot water. Apply this with a rough towel on the face as though you are sponging the face. Remember to keep your eyes closed during this application. After each application, wring off the excess water from the towel. This is a mildly painful process as the salt will create a tingling sensation with the open areas of the pimples. However, you will obtain sure results in ten days.
The above techniques can be done at home itself. But if some of these methods do not bring the required results, or if there are unexpected results, then medical attention is required. Unexpected results will mean the problem is not simple acne, but some other more serious underlying problem.

A Lull

It's been a long long while ... hehe
Ever since we got the flat from HDB, realised more items are to be fixed, i.e. small cracks in the parts of the ceiling, tiles that need to be hacked etc etc.
Was getting renovation quotes from several renovation contractors, finally narrow down to one today. So today we signed the contract, and they proceeded to apply for the HDB permit.

I think the reno direction is basically okay, Balinese styling, warm kind of lighting.
Wish I was in Bali for a short villa holiday now =} & perhaps shop for the teak / wood furniture too .. hmm ....

The expected renovation timing would be approximately a month to month and a half.

This summer's been a bit worn out .. tatty torn type... guess I wasn't getting enough sleep than I should be..

Online web contact lists aka social lists

A long time ago, there was Friendster, along came icq, my space, many other social networks.
For a person as I, these social networks are seldom used. I would rather get to see the person, spend some time together, however simple is the activity.
I don't really see a point in getting these spaces.
Certainly not to vote for some person/ cause to prove something. esp that I don't even remember my passwords to any of the social network that I had signed on a whim years ago. i.e. friendster was visited like 1-2 yr 1 time ?

Also updating this blog is certainly a blessing already. However if I lose my password ... ho ho ho .. I might not miss updating my blog, just go out more. That's when I say, I'll see you , when I see you.

Passing time

Grandmum was lonely I guess, there isn't much to look forward to, having fell down and can't walk and now can't eat much.
It was sad to see her like this, Aunt and the maid that took care of her, vomited, were depressed because of her condition.
It was nice to talk to Grandmum on Monday & Tuesday, motivated her to take more food, drink more water, sponge her, sit up, move her limbs a bit for exercise.

Night I heard was tough journey, she having dry skin & can't sleep, she would wake Aunt & the maid up, thinking there is mosquitoes in the room. Actual fact was her body could not absorb water, it made her skin dry.

Hope she get better.

Pasir Ris Beach

A lot had changed since I last went to Pasir Ris beach.
There used to be a row of seaside restaurant lining the coast of the Pasir Ris beach, we had our new year count down in 2001 & 2002 with friends.
What remains now are 2 new restaurants Summer Breeze & another one, don't remember the name.
Summer breeze has localized western food i.e. Salmon with wine wine cheese sauce with rice. They serve reds, whites and lager/ beer & coffee. It's a nice place to chill and relax , looking out to the sea, watching the kids, boats from the kelong (saw about 5 of them) , listening to rock & soft rock music.
It's good to get to the beach and feel the tension melting away.. a holiday without leaving Singapore. =)

Get well soon

Wished I was already better from sore throat, think I had it for the past 3 weeks, today's the bits left, I can't drink cold drinks, otherwise I'll cough because it is 'itchy', so I guess it'll be a matter of time it gets well.

I saw the movie street kings today, I think the movie's not bad.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0421073/
Detective Tom Ludlow played by Keanu Reeves ; Captain Jack Wander played by Forest Whitaker are the main characters in the movie.

So Jack runs the show with his boys (Tom included), doing the police work. So the movie starts showing Tom taking down Korean badies (shooting-killing them all) and rescuing the twin girls that the Korean badies kidnapped. But this was contrary to normal storm in, take down, minimize wounds + rescue kinda set up that was the norm. Jack then used the dead Korean badies' guns and shoot a few shots (making the fire scene more creditable)

Then Tom gave his modified testimony.

Along the way, Tom's once close sidekick Detective Terrence Washington(played by Terry Crews), warned Tom to mend his ways but Tom was influenced by Jack that Terrence was giving information to Captain James Biggs' (played by Hugh Laurie) department

A few days after it, Tom saw Terrence and followed him to a convenience store, wanting to punch him, as he was walking into the shop, he saw 2 suspicious men driving in and seemed to be robbers, true enough, after Jack got into the shop, he saw Terrence, Terrence thought that Tom wanted to kill him, and they had a scuffle, the 2 men came in and shoot everyone except for Tom.
So Jack got to know about this, hurried to the place, and got Tom to keep the CD that recorded the events. Forest made some calls and the matter was hushed.

Tom wanted to hunt down the badies that killed Terrence, along the way, he follow the leads. Eventually, he found out that the man, Jack, who covered up for his own works, the shootings etc etc, was involved in illicit transactions that was hampering the justice system, taking money from others and paying off those that could turn the other way so that the boys on his team can do what he wanted them to do.

I think the story is pretty good, Keanu and Forest had room to play the roles in the movie. Notable was the side kick Detective Paul Diskant, played by Chris Evans; his role was a more indoor police, didn't see much of the action, but is a through procedure person, gathering evidence from autopsy etc, writing reports. The role sympathizes with Tom's predicament, didn't know what he was getting into, when he followed Tom on the investigations of who killed Terrance, eventually, he was killed on one of the trails.

And he gave me Erique. We are together for 10 years plus & counting ...

My Sweet Love Affair with Tea

My Sweet Love Affair with Tea
Originally uploaded by fleamarketstudio

Tea is an easier beverage than coffee (esp when I didn't drink enough water after the coffee & I'll feel sore throaty after *shrugs*.
But with Tea, it's easy to love it.

From Chinese Teas : Tie Guan Yin, Jasmine, Pu Er, Wu long, Zhi Ding Xiang

to English Teas : English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Lady Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Ceylon

Local : Lipton tea with milk or Lemon

New age : Flower & Herb Teas

Though Darjeeling is still my favorite, being a spicy wake-me up tea.

The Devil's World

Everyday we live, many forces are at work in the world.

From the day that Eve agreed to eat of the Tree of Knowledge, she was sundered. And to introduce Adam to eat, and he ate. He was sundered too.
By not eating from the Tree of knowledge or the Tree of life, this denotes that the both of them trusts the Lord enough to let him care for them so that they can rest(enjoy). So taking matters into their own hands -> to determine their own destiny & giving over the keys to the world to the Devil(by eating from the Tree of Knowledge), A & E have the Sin consciousness (they knew that they were naked and made clothes of plants).

I am glad that the Lord turn Adam & Eve out of the Garden of Eden, after they ate of the Tree of Knowledge; else had they ate of the tree of life, they'll be living forever in sickness & sin consciousness.

The world did have its attractions : vast places to visit, clear skies, maybe to the outer space if some one could sponsor me, good food, great culture from many many places, the sea, sun, toys(from the land of Japan i.e. Hello Kitty, some other company's etc etc toys that I can only recognize by sight) but it has a over-tipping share of uncertainties : from the day that any one is born, the cells start to die, humans grow old and die. No matter how well pocketed/ heeled/ driven/ top of the corporate path/ social circle.

There is a movie named 'The Island'. The movie opens with a building with a young man, he wakes every morning to a room, fully furnished with bed, toilet, cupboard of same clothes. When he pees the nutrient levels are voiced to him, and will suggest what he should eat etc. etc.
So besides him, there are plenty of others like him. In the building there are administrators who manage these people. Every week, there will be a lottery draw, of which the winner/ winners will be allowed to go out of the building to 'THE ISLAND'. So the winners immediately step up to claim the prize.

But what awaits them is a process of butchering. Administrators would led these 'winners' to the operating table and remove their organs for actual people who had paid for them (i.e. to grow the organs - the management of the organization had mis represented the facts - what was presented to them was a situation of the organ growing independently - not from the body; when actual fact a full body was grown).

When the Lord maketh man, he breathed into him. And Man was animated. Today we are trying to be GOD, to have transplants, to have skin grafts, to have plastic augmentation, Lasik, bone restructuring, IVF, cloning, bleaching. I view life on earth or the world rather ; being temporal activity. Though I might miss traveling to many places on earth, drink and eat all I want. But these are the habits of the worldly body, it would be worthwhile to leave behind.

We are all live and try to play in this world, but this world is not yet the place of rest yet, at least not after until the things said in Revelation completes.

Make contact

It is quite rare that any one in this society now that does not have a cell phone. I read in a mag that Tom cruise does not own one, iPod/ wallet/ cash . Maybe some one is being paid to do these carrying/ time management.

But the normal day-to-day person would. I think we just can't live w/o these things.

Time That Flew

When we were kids(me, my brother, 2 other sets of my maternal cousins), we are just happy meeting up, since we only have another sibling to play with. maybe be Lego, doing something exciting, a puzzle, or some game that some one invented etc etc, it was fun. and we are all cute with baby fat, lol ...

When we grew older , we got apart, had different interests, grew bunches of friends. I guess life goes this way. I think that aside from our parents that always gather us for the CNY, sometimes that they went each other houses to visit, but we cousins seldom gather on the days after CNY. Maybe some day we cousins might grow even apart given that one day our parents pass away.
It will be a sad thing then. But while we are together, it's nice to experience times with them, it is a sincerity that can not be replaced.

Hair Ambition

I had re colored by hair yexterday to mid- brown from mid- ashburn/yellowish kinda. I'm still undecided if I should cut it down shorter or get the hair curler to try to curl my hair, let's see.

Yesterday & today, the storm hit our little Island, But I think it can't be helped, China's facing the blizzard, it is bound to spill over to the neighboring countries. It's still a little damp and foggy now, it's been ages since I last saw a fog, I think the last I saw was when I went mountain climbing on Bukit Timah - that was when I was still in primary school.

Wanda, Sunny(so many people are called Sunny) & Jacob came to their company office in Singapore to have a meeting. On Friday, I was their tour guide for the day, took them to the Merlion garden(now near to Esplanade), Victoria memorial hall, Sentosa , Vivo City.
We certainly walked quite a lot, My knees were quite tired, as they are still not quite recovered from the house cleaning over the last weekend. Today they are much better now, I guess I was quite out of shape. Heh heh ~

Daihatsu Copen

It costs about S$65K on a local website , wow.. now I really wish I got tons of money.. heh =^

Spring Cleaning

This year is a major room cleaning, yet to start with the whole house yet hahaha!! I go 2 book cases from Giant over the weekday and it was delivered yesterday.
To prep the space for the books to shelf it on to the book shelf, the major throw away junk began on friday evening after dinner, well into 3 am, cleaning the dust away(quite a thick layer !!), unscrew my wardrobe joints and moving it to the desired position, screw the joint together, quite a bit of effort... I thought I was dead moving those wardrobes... >< arghs..
Then it was packaging the tons of magazines and throwing them , think was about 6 bags of them, some old novels (1 bag), old bags (some are from friends, but more of mine).
Yesterday the book cases came and spent a large part of the afternoon fixing them together with my mom, she's better at these hardware stuff than me lol =) I just develop a blister after not much into fixing them... and up went the books, magazines. I think I need to curb buying books or reading material for that matter... it is really hard to part with them ..
Then it was the throwing clothes away time, threw about 5 -6 bags, I need to curb buying clothes that can't hold it shape/ size/ color for any matter, the phase is selective buying quality material.
Today I've packed the old cosmetics, traveling pouches, swimming pouches (can't believe how many half used shampoo/ conditioner/ lip balm, moisturizers that I had brought and used without using the old stuff... so I had them in the bin as well...

So for the past 3 days, these are the work done, gotten a number of bruises on my legs(book shelf knocks) and a few grazes, sore legs and feet... the ache!

I think I will be to cut my expenditure 75%, selectively buy the things that I really need/ read and a thought for the new house - if I manage to get it - is to have build in wardrobe, no more cleaning dust !

What will Matter

Michael Josephson

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.**

There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days. All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance. It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.

Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear. So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and to do lists will expire.

The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won't matter where you came from or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end.

It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant. Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought but what you built, not what you got but what you gave.

What will matter is not your success but your significance.

What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence but your character.

What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone.

What will matter is not your memories but the memories that live in those who loved you.

What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident. It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice.

Choose to live a life that matters.

Waiting out the wait

The flat is almost sold - thanks to the brother (who made a BIG fuss about why the owner can not sell) of the owner , when the brother is not the occupier ..
I'll wait a few days more.
